City of Emeryville Bus Shelter Art
Commissioned by the City of Emeryville, these illustrations playfully merge Emeryville’s past, present and “future” to create a Utopian vision that has its source in actual history. Based on research from the Oakland Library’s History room, the Emeryville Historical Society, and late 19th century newspapers, the Utopic fantasy scenes imagine a historical trajectory where people, animals, and plants learn to live in an idyllic harmony. The source illustrations are done by hand with India ink and a brush on vellum paper. These were scanned, colored and printed for the bus shelters.
