Packard Jennings is a public artist whose work investigates the relationship between the built environment and the natural world. Drawing inspiration from both animal-made and naturally occurring structures, he examines how these forms align with or challenge Western architectural traditions—and how all such structures shape meaning and belonging. His work reflects a commitment to ecological responsibility, from the selection of sustainable materials to considerations of functionality and longevity in public space.
He also makes work that actively seeks social and ecological justice, work that centers on power — who holds it, who is harmed by it, how it is constructed and internalized, and how we, as community, can work together to affect positive change.
With expertise in a wide range of sculptural techniques—from traditional metalworking and woodworking to contemporary digital fabrication, CNC, and 3D modeling—Packard creates works that bridge craft, technology, and environmental awareness. In collaboration with the Studio for Urban Projects, he engages communities around issues of sustainability, urban resilience, and climate adaptation, fostering dialogue between art, ecology, and civic life.
As an outdoor enthusiast and environmentally engaged citizen, Packard integrates conceptual and scientific research into his creative process. His work reflects a commitment to ecological responsibility, from the selection of sustainable materials to considerations of functionality and longevity in public space.
Although he primarily works in public space, Jennings’ work has also been exhibited in galleries and museums across the U.S. and internationally, including in Geneva, Turin, Paris, Stuttgart, Madrid, Ljubljana, Vancouver, and Barcelona. His projects have been featured in several books, such as From the Ground Up, Art and Agenda, Urban Interventions, The BLDG BLOG Book, and We Own the Night. His work has received critical attention in outlets including The Boston Globe, Artforum, Flash Art, The Believer, Adbusters, New American Paintings, The Washington Post, and on the front page of The New York Times.
